Constant Readers,
Just a quick post about the fact that today is the deadline to file one's intent to run in the April 8 Special Primary for the District 12 Congressional seat. As you may or may not recall, the seat was vacated early when Tom Lantos passed away on February 11. Click here for logistics about how the seat will be decided.
Well, its official: no one of consequence is running against Jackie Speier on April 8. (Though I do wish fellow Southerner and Charles Schultz character Jason Lee Jones had made the deadline.)
Not Leland Yee.
Not Larry Lessig.
Not Yul Kwon.
I will give these guys credit, though. They at least knew when to fold 'em. Because, let's face it: no one in their right mind wants to kill themselves in a campaign only to walk around wearing something that says, "I ran against Jackie Speier and all I got was this lousy t-shirt. And am grateful her rabid fans let me keep the t-shirt."
Are you listening, Ralph? Cindy?
Jackie's still campaigning, though. Bless her heart. She'll be appearing tonight at 7 p.m. at the Taraval Police Station, 2345 24th Avenue and Taraval. The event is sponsored by the Sunset Community Democratic Club.
If I were in her position, there is no way I'd be dealing with a bunch of future constituents bitching about the vagaries of life between now and April 8. I'd be sipping champagne and giggling with Anna Eshoo while contemplating the color of my new drapes in the Cannon House Office Building.
(Red, Jackie. You're a Fall.)
